Subject: IATSE CALL TO ACTION: Tell the Senate to Support Increased Federal Arts Funding!

IATSE Political Coordinators –

We are on the cusp of winning a significant funding increase for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) next year, and your help is needed to make sure Congress gets it done!

In July, thanks to letters, emails, and phone calls from IATSE members and other union creative professionals, the U.S. House of Representatives approved $207 million in funding for the NEA and NEH each for the next fiscal year. Now, we need the U.S. Senate to approve this funding level, so it can go to the President’s desk and become a reality.

We need your help amplifying IATSE’s joint U.S. Senate letter writing campaign with the arts, entertainment, and media industry unions of the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO.

Contact your Senators today to ask that they fund the NEA and NEH at $207 million in FY23, the funding level already passed by the House.

Once you’ve written your letter using the above link, please contact your local membership and encourage them to do the same. I invite you to share this campaign with your membership via email, social media, and other modes of local communication.

It’s important that we urge the Senate to approve $207 million because Senate appropriators have recommended a lower level of $195 million.

As we know, increased federal arts funding creates more work opportunities for IATSE members. These funds go directly towards supporting working families, promoting our crafts, and ensuring all Americans have access to the arts and entertainment. Additionally, the NEA and NEH are critical to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts, entertainment, and media industries.

If enacted by Congress, this proposed increase of $27 million would be a record-high for the agencies and make a meaningful step toward our goal of funding the NEA and NEH at $1 per capita, or $331 million, which we continue to fight for.

In Solidarity,
