2025 Dues Update - Q1 Dues - Pay by March 1
Posted On: Feb 02, 2025

Dear /userfirstname/,

We had our Quarter 1 General Business Meeting on Monday, January 27.  The email contains information regarding the dues for 2025.

Information from Meeting about Dues

While we are still awaiting formal, official notification from International President Mattthew D. Loeb, International Vice-President Colleen Glynn informed the Executive Board of our Local that our Constitution and Bylaws proposed changes, that we voted on at our Q4 2024 General Business Meeting are still under review with IATSE International Legal Department.  IATSE Legal  informed Colleen us that we have been out of compliance with how we structured our dues.  We researched the fee structure with 21 other IATSE locals across the country and mentioned this at the Q1 2025 GB meeting.

The common structure is to pay some money, specifically to IATSE International, for the stamps and to pay money to the Local for operations.  In other words, there are two payment types and obligations.  The Dues are paid to IATSE International, and a Working Assessment (Agency Fee) is paid to the Local (IATSE Local B4).  The Dues are payable by everyone, either quarterly or annually, and everyone is responsible for paying the same amount.  Late payments will be assessed late fees.  The Working Assessment is often a portion/percentage of earnings taken out of the paycheck(s) by the house(s)/venue(s) where an usher worked that week and sent to the Local, either on a monthly or quarterly basis.  No one is required to join IATSE International (the Union) but under the Collective Bargaining Agreements with the house(s)/venue(s), the Dues and Working Assessment are required.

Vote on Dues

The membership voted on the Dues for IATSE International and District 3.  The amount is $20 per quarter or $80 annually.  Per the Constitution and Bylaws, the due dates for quarterly payments are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.  The late fee is $10 per quarter.  The one-time initiation fee to join IATSE International  is $65.  Most of us have already paid our initiation fees - when we were voted into the union. If you have been invited to join pre-2025, but did not, you still can.  The dues for the full year must be paid by everyone who ushers in a calendar year.  Skipping a quarter will result in a late fee.  Failure to pay dues could impact being scheduled to work/offered work.

Working Assessment Meeting

We plan to schedule a Special Meeting (TBD) to review and vote on the Working Assessment.  The budget that we approved for 2025 (at the Quarter 4 2024 GB Meeting) will guide us to how much to charge and how to collect the money.  As previously stated, these monies are often a percentage of earnings collected by the house(s)/venue(s) where someone worked that is sent directly to the Local.  The money covers the Local’s expenses and obligations to operate.  We will announce the Special Meeting date with a two-week’s notice of such meeting.
